Over 40 volunteers will observe Marquette County polls on Election Day
The Daily Marquette team
If you're voting Tuesday, you may spot some extra eyes at your polling place. The Michigan Election Observation Project trained over 40 Northern Michigan University students and retirees on Sunday to watch the polls from open to close. It's a statewide effort sponsored by The Carter Center, and Marquette is the only Upper Peninsula county in it.

Observers will be recording what they see on standardized forms so reports from around the state can be compared. Regional coordinator Max Bone said they'll check that a zero tape prints correctly at the start, that seal numbers are right and that polling places open on time.
“The nonpartisan nature is the backbone of the work we are doing because our only interest here is the accessibility, transparency and integrity of the electoral processes in the state of Michigan.”
