- ➤ Marquette’s 5th annual Art on the Mountain event will take place this weekend at Marquette Mountain from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both local and lower Michigan artists will show paintings, photographs, ceramics, woodwork and jewelry + food, live music and a bubble show will add to the fun while lift tickets will be available for purchase. - ➤ The West End Health Foundation is offering fall grants to nonprofits that improve health in Marquette County's West End+ organizations can apply for amounts from $1,000 to $10,000 while groups focusing on food security may receive up to $40,000; applications close on September 26th. - ➤ The West End Health Foundation is accepting applications for two fall grant cycles aimed at supporting local health programs and food security (with awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 and one proactive grant offering up to $40,000 available). - ➤ After months of bargaining, UPHS-Marquette techs reached a tentative contract agreement on September 3 that includes an 18.75% wage increase over four years & matching health insurance with RNs and improved terms for incentive shifts, and union members will vote on the agreement on September 11. - ➤ During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, mental health specialists in Marquette work to reduce the stigma around suicide by teaching residents to recognize signs like loneliness and changes in sleep or appetite.
