  • U.P. City Fest kicked off yesterday at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette — the free, family-friendly event features music, activities and speakers with a positive Christian message and will continue through Sunday.  Sunny 101.9
  • The 6th annual UP City Fest is coming to Marquette today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., offering free live music, BMX stunt riders, food and speeches (by Green Bay Packers Chaplain Shawn Hennessy and Pastor Lorenzo Sewell) centered on Jesus and his teachings. Everyone is welcome to attend, and a community church service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • UPAWS and Kognisjon Bryggeri joined forces in Marquette to honor rescue dog George—transferred from a Texas shelter who now lives happily here—by launching George’s Superior Sunset, a cherry wheat ale with proceeds supporting animal care. The makers announced that the next specialty brew will be released in 2026 to honor another pet.  WZMQ 19

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Forsyth Township emergency manager confirmed a 17-year-old boy drowned Wednesday night (the drowning occurred off Seass Drive between Little Lake and Mehl Lake) and officials remain tight-lipped as details are scarce.  Upper Michigan's Source

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Thill and Sons Fish House is a family-run store on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette’s Lower Harbor that sells fresh whitefish and other locally caught fish. The business is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — residents can watch family members work in the back processing fish.  The Mining Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visit Keweenaw and Michigan Aurora Chasers will host the inaugural Great Lakes Aurora Dark Sky Jamboree at the Keweenaw Dark Sky Park from September 11 to 14 in Houghton—Melissa Kaelin is set to deliver the keynote and a meteorite exhibit will be featured at the A.E. Seamen Mineral Museum. The four-day event will offer free twilight yoga on September 13—attendees can join a sky watch party at Breakers Beach and take part in beach clean-up efforts.  Upper Michigan's Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Syncurrent, a Marquette A.I. company, is working with the Michigan Municipal League to add its tool to the Michigan Funding Hub — an easy-to-use portal for state and federal grant opportunities. The new integration helps local governments find funds quickly, and Syncurrent CEO Dhruv Patel said the company will expand the tool to other states soon.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Vault Marquette held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday to begin transforming the old Savings Bank building in downtown Marquette into a hotel + parking garage + commercial space + residential units.
