- ➤ The Gwinn Lions Club’s annual Gwinn Fun Daze is set for June 21—where funds raised from a $25 registration fee will support children with cancer—and will feature a 5K race at 8 a.m. at Gilbert Elementary School, a garden-themed parade at 10 a.m., an antique motor vehicle show across the river, live music, games, a cornhole tournament, a youth soccer camp and duck races for a full day of family fun. - ➤ The David — Thu Brulé YMCA of Marquette County raised nearly $4.5 million for its new Multi-Purpose Field House and is asking for an extra $500,000 to support facility repairs, a Scholarship Fund, and added amenities. At Thursday’s golf outing at the Marquette Golf Club, the board launched its Capital Campaign and raised about $80,000 through live and silent auctions. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The Jacobetti Home for Veterans will host a community pancake breakfast fundraiser this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the back parking lot at 425 Fisher Street to raise funds for residents' activity programs—American Legion Post 44 will run a raffle with a suggested donation of $10 per person. - ➤ The Make-Believe Spurs, made up of Brian & Molly Wallen and Mavis Farr, released their debut album on June 12 and the trio shared how they created the music during a live track with Mark & Walt in the Morning. - ➤ Northern Michigan University students in an entrepreneurship course built businesses from scratch and gave every bit of profit to local charities last semester. The Verdant Vessels project earned $195 for the NMU Food Pantry—other projects raised funds for Delta Animal Shelter, BOTIQA, Room at the Inn and Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly. - ➤ The DNR presented preliminary 2024 deer season estimates at a Thursday morning Natural Resource Commission meeting showing a 21% increase in UP deer harvest numbers from 2023. Officials said the normal winter and an extended antlerless season helped hunters harvest 16,746 extra antlerless deer statewide, and they hope these trends will boost success in the current season.
