  • The Marquette Kiwanis Club will host its 68th annual Chicken Barbecue at Lakeview Arena on Sunday, June 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—serving half-chicken meals with baked potatoes, rolls, milk and ice cream to raise money for local community projects.   • The 7th Annual Marquette County Community Resource Fair will be held on Thursday, June 26th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Lakeview Arena in Marquette—free to all and featuring nearly 70 community organizations offering health screenings, food, housing, utility support, veteran assistance, vaccinations and women’s resources.  Sunny 101.9
  • Marquette seniors learned how to spot scam calls and online attacks at the Peter White Public Library during a SAIL seminar—Giovanni Pedrotti explained that trusting instincts and reporting suspicious messages can help keep everyone safe.  Upper Michigan's Source

CRIME NEWS

  • Ishpeming police are asking for help locating Bailey Aho-Carello, who evaded authorities after being out on bond for armed robbery, unlawful driving, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm—his Facebook account reacted with a laughing emoji to a police appeal and he now faces a felony warrant for unarmed robbery, so anyone with information is urged to call the department.  The Mining Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent ALICE report shows that 41% of Marquette households are above the poverty line while still struggling to afford necessities — officials say the cost of living is growing faster than wages. United Way and local agencies will provide programs such as free food delivery to help families close this gap.  Upper Michigan's Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harbor Light Early Education has opened enrollment in Marquette for an at-home preschool serving children ages 2 to 6. The summer program will start on June 16 and the school still needs one more teacher—owner Ashley Crosland explained.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • The Superior Wildlife Rehab & Education Center in Marquette is hosting a benefit event this weekend at Up North Lodge in Gwinn from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to support its care for orphaned and injured wildlife.  Sunny 101.9
