Eagle Mine is asking local residents to take an anonymous survey that will help improve its work on environmental impacts and community support — the survey will run from June 2 to Aug.

Burt Township School sophomore William Paul secured a $10,673 grant from the Michigan DNR to improve the deer habitat in his school forest.

At the Mackinac Policy Conference, state leaders announced the statewide rollout of the Michigan Home Energy Rebates Program that can offer up to $34,000 in rebates to help households save on utility bills — especially for low and moderate income families.

The program builds on a successful pilot in Marquette and Holland and will connect households with approved contractors for needed energy upgrades.

Officials report a second measles case in the Upper Peninsula—this case is located in Ontonagon and the patient is from Marquette County where the first case was reported earlier this week.

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department said the investigation continues with little new information released.
