- ➤ Dozens gathered at Marquette Commons this afternoon for the Workers over Billionaires rally, a nationwide May Day event supporting working families and public schools; organizers from Upper Peninsula Regional Labor Federation + Lake Superior Region Indivisible said the rally aimed to boost local voices on unions and public services. - ➤ Mount Manufacturing will expand into the former Best Buy space in Marquette Township to support its growth — Cherry Creek Construction will take over its current building to expand services and reenergize local commercial space. - ➤ Silver Creek Thrift celebrated its ribbon cutting on Friday and will officially open today at 10 a.m. after purchasing its building six weeks ago, aiming to serve community members in need (per Lead Pastor Kevin Taylor). Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Northern Michigan University approved room/board rates and seven new degree programs for fall during its May 1 meeting. - ➤ UP Health System invested over $10 million in patient care by using new MRI technology (which now reduces wait times to days) at its Hancock, Ishpeming and Marquette locations. Tonya Darner said the upgrade supports faster service and boosts local economic benefits. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Women bikers can receive a free bike cleaning at Downwind Sports on May 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A cleaning station behind the store will provide maintenance tips to help riders prepare for the summer season. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ NMU Wildcats beat the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears 15-7 and advanced to the GLIAC Championship game, where they will face the Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday, May 3 at noon ET. Josie Lakosky (11 points) and Avery Lorinser (8 points) led the team. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Area high school girls basketball players received BCAM Best honors announced by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, with seven local players from Negaunee, Ishpeming, Baraga and Munising named, including standout seniors and one noteworthy freshman—recognizing both athletic performance and academics. - ➤ NMU Women finished third in the GLIAC Outdoor Championships on Friday at Grand Valley State with 113 points, and field athlete Danielle Lund won the discus with a 42.97m toss — earning Field Athlete of the Meet honors and contributing to eight podium finishes overall. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The Negaunee High School girls track team dominated the Flivver Invitational in Kingsford on Thursday, scoring 191 points while competitors totaled 150. They will compete in the WIN meet on Tuesday in Negaunee — a promising next step for local athletes. The Mining Journal
