- ➤ Dozens gathered at Marquette Commons this afternoon for the Workers over Billionaires rally, a nationwide May Day event supporting working families and public schools; organizers from Upper Peninsula Regional Labor Federation + Lake Superior Region Indivisible said the rally aimed to boost local voices on unions and public services. - ➤ Mount Manufacturing will expand into the former Best Buy space in Marquette Township to support its growth — Cherry Creek Construction will take over its current building to expand services and reenergize local commercial space. - ➤ Northern Michigan University approved room/board rates and seven new degree programs for fall during its May 1 meeting. - ➤ NMU Wildcats beat the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears 15-7 and advanced to the GLIAC Championship game, where they will face the Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday, May 3 at noon ET. Josie Lakosky (11 points) and Avery Lorinser (8 points) led the team. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Area high school girls basketball players received BCAM Best honors announced by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, with seven local players from Negaunee, Ishpeming, Baraga and Munising named, including standout seniors and one noteworthy freshman—recognizing both athletic performance and academics.
