Food pantries in the Upper Peninsula can apply for a grant offering refrigeration units worth up to $7,000 from the United Dairy Industry of Michigan in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Superior Health Foundation.

Applications are due by June 22.

On Friday morning, students from 7 school districts showcased their construction and welding skills at the Carpenters & Millwrights Training Center in NeGaunee; 54 welding students were tested on various techniques and winning teams received a trophy and a banner for their CTE classrooms.

Students at North Star Montessori listened as motivational speaker Brad Hurtig recounted overcoming adversity after losing his hands in an accident.

MDHHS has launched a grant for schools and nonprofits to create peer-to-peer anti-bullying programs for special needs students using the Statewide Autism model; applications are due by 3 p.m. Friday, May 22 (conference at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday) and $150,000 will support 30–35 awards from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.
