- ➤ The NMU Cosmetology Department held its 3rd annual Lucky You Spa Day fundraiser on March 21 to benefit the Marquette Women's Center by offering spa treatments and brunch at Suite 1205 of the Northern Center on campus—appointments were available by calling 9062272386 or emailing [email protected] and walk-ins were welcome with a suggested $35 donation requested. - ➤ The Ore Dock Brewing Co. held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, March 21 for its new Trestle— a two-story cocktail lounge and beer garden attached to the brewery. The new space offers an expanded menu of house-distilled cocktails, Michigan wine, and draft beers and will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Amelia’s Craft Market and Boutique opened in downtown Marquette in October 2022 when owner Amelia McDonald and her husband created a space to sell their woodwork and local art. - ➤ Tonight, 'My Sister', a short film written and produced by Dan Aho, premiered at the Marquette Regional History Center. The film was shot at local sites — including Teal Lake and Negaunee — and stars NMU alumni Jessica Red Bays and Han Numinen as sisters estranged by addiction. WZMQ 19

- ➤ NMU President Brock Tessman—who took office on Feb. 21—is one of two finalists for Montana State University’s presidency and will be interviewed March 27-28. His bid comes as MSU President Waded Cruzado announced her retirement at the end of the academic year. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Residents in Marquette are frustrated as trash from demolition at the old Marquette General Hospital site on West Magnetic Street blows into neighborhoods and the lake, prompting repeated complaints to the city and EGLE. Adamo said today it fully complies with permits—adding that high winds make extra screening impractical while officials review further records after a FOIA request was submitted. - ➤ On Feb. 20, wildlife researchers from the DNR, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and NMU fitted 20 moose with GPS collars to track their movements and collect vital samples—data used to pinpoint why the moose population in the western U.P. remains below 500. They will collar 40 more moose next winter to guide conservation efforts—improving management of this native species. Upper Michigan's Source
