COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Elves visited the Upper Michigan Brewing Company on Monday, Dec. 15 to wrap Christmas presents during its Pints and Presents event in Negaunee. Families enjoyed a relaxing drink while tips given to the elves were donated to The Salvation Army to ease holiday stress. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Marquette officials advise extra caution online during the busy holiday shopping season. Detective Lieutenant Mike Archocosky (City Police) and bank VP Boris Martysz recommend avoiding unknown links and atypical payment methods to protect personal information. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Registration for YMCA Winter 1 programming will begin Dec. 22 for members and Dec. 29 for nonmembers — the session includes swim lessons, gymnastics, fit clubs and sports training as the new field house opens Jan. 5. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Marquette county businesses advise residents to locate sewer and water lines and to use measures (insulation, heating tape, spray foam) to keep pipes from freezing this winter, helping to avoid costly repairs. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Michigan Tech's Young Americans for Freedom finished its biggest military care package drive by sending 78 packages + 785 letters and 692 lbs of supplies to service members stateside and in 11 countries ahead of the holidays. - ➤ The Ford River Lions Club hosted its third annual Community Kids Christmas Party with a visit from Santa Claus this past weekend. Families enjoyed a hayride (from the Ford River Pub), lunch, cookie decorating, and crafts at the clubhouse, which made the holiday extra special for local children. WZMQ 19

- ➤ At Monday night’s Marquette City Commission meeting, officials recommended a new Development District liquor license for Sips and Suds, LLC at 629 North Third St — currently King Koin’s location — as it moves on to state review for a combination bar and laundromat. Upper Michigan's Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marquette County sheriff officials patrol snowmobile trails nearly 40 hours each week and caution riders to stay on designated paths and off frozen lakes (they advise carrying a cell phone and an emergency plan due to the cold) as patrols are funded by DNR grants and county millage. - ➤ Last night, the Economic Club of Marquette County held a dinner where City Manager Karen Kovacs outlined updates to housing, roads, and infrastructure while Superintendent Zack Sedgwick presented details on MAPS's upcoming bond proposal. WZMQ 19
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Marquette Mountain resort welcomed hundreds of skiers & snowboarders on Friday by opening two new runs with slopes covered in up to three feet of snow from new machines. The resort will add more snow this week and start regular hours on Dec. 20. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The Negaunee Sports Booster Club asked community members to volunteer for high school sports after unveiling a Community Sponsorship plan (each tier offers a unique support level) on Dec. 15. Club president Dawn Evans urged locals to help raise funds for school athletics. Sunny 101.9
