- ➤ Michigan State Police are hosting their annual Stuff a Blue Goose drive this month to collect toys and food for local families. Donations take place at drop-off sites in Sault Ste. Marie (Dec.1–15), St. Ignace (Dec.1–15), Gladstone (Dec.20, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.), Iron Mountain (Dec.11, 2–5 p.m.), and Calumet (Dec.11, 1–4 p.m.) The Mining Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Marquette Choral Society sold out its winter concert on Sunday at Reynolds Recital Hall as 170 singers performed Handel’s 'Messiah' + holiday favorites, celebrating both Christmas and Hanukkah. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ LoveMARQ Church at 728 W. Kaye Ave. in Marquette will host a free sound meditation led by Aurelia Fure using crystal singing bowls, drums, rattles and gongs on Dec. 20 and every third Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.—attendees should dress in layers and bring comfort items. The Mining Journal
- ➤ On Sunday, the Finlandia Foundation National Lake Superior Chapter held a celebration of Finland’s Independence Day and Pikkujoulu at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. - ➤ Marquette Area Piano Teachers Association will host a free piano music day featuring area students performing at Peter White library Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each hour, a different teacher and their group will offer holiday tunes and more. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Gwinn Area Community Schools honored high and middle school students for making the first quarter honor roll of the 2025-2026 school year. The district recognized academic excellence based on GPA standards. The Mining Journal
- ➤ On December 3, 2025, Negaunee Elks and Fox Motors donated 36 pairs of boots and warm socks to Lakeview Elementary’s Giving Tree program using funds from the Grand Lodge Gratitude Grant; the $1,507.85 donation supports local students. The Mining Journal

- ➤ A study finds Upper Peninsula residents are divided on wolf management, with more than 60% favoring a reduction due to concerns over livestock and deer (the DNR is urged to use non-lethal measures to address safety issues). The Mining Journal

- ➤ UPHS Marquette was honored with the 2025 Safely Averting NTSV Cesareans Award for reducing 11 low-risk cesarean deliveries since January 2025 (recognized in the low-volume hospital category). The award highlights their commitment to safe childbirth care. The Mining Journal
