Project Keep Kids Warm, organized by Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming, has provided nearly 400 children with winter clothing in Marquette County so far and will continue fundraising through a Texas Roadhouse Dine+Donate event on Sunday, Dec.
14 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Mining Journal Cheer Club neared its halfway point on Friday when the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan dropped off seven totes full of holiday toys in Marquette to support children, partnering with the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.
The program aims to help local neighbors during tough times.
The Friends of the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library host a used book sale to fund library improvements and special projects; the sale continues today (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with donated books offered at discounted prices.
🎭 Culture
Marquette Choral Society is presenting December concerts this weekend at Reynolds Recital Hall at NMU (7:30 p.m. today and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday).
The performances feature selections from Handel's Messiah with tickets available at NMU outlets.
Marquette celebrated its 50th Christmas tree lighting on Friday night with a parade along Third Street to Marquette Commons where Santa and Mayor Paul Schloegel led the countdown and lit the tree — new musical features extended the festivities.
On Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., the Marquette Regional History Center will host Legends & Lore: Marquette Unknown at Kaufman Auditorium, 611 N.
Front St. where Jack Deo and Jim Koski will share historical photos and local stories; advance tickets cost $20.
🎓 Education
NMU students are preparing for final exams – beginning Monday, Dec.
8 – while balancing tough study routines with rest before the Christmas break; grades will be finalized on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Negaunee High School announced its first quarter honor roll for the 2025-2026 school year, recognizing students who achieved high grades.
The list includes groups earning all A’s and those with A’s and B’s across grades 9-12.
🏈 Sports
The NMU Wildcats edged Bowling Green 3-2 in their first win of the season on a tough road trip marked by key goals and strong penalty-killing.
The team will face game two at Slater Family Ice Arena today (6:07 p.m.) as they look to build on their momentum.
