COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today is Giving Tuesday, a worldwide day of giving that urges residents to donate and volunteer to support local nonprofits through the #Give906 campaign (organized by Grow & Lead Community and Youth Development). The campaign, which includes more than 50 organizations, helps fund causes such as travel expenses for cancer patients and music lessons for local children. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Marquette County celebrities will auction off paintings, sculptures and experiences at UP Children’s Museum on Thursday with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.—The free event is limited to guests aged 21 and older and will feature food, drinks and raffles to fund museum updates and children’s programming. - ➤ On December 1st, LSCP CEO Christopher Germain urged Marquette residents on Mark and Walt in the Morning to shop local for holiday gifts—saying that local purchases support small businesses and strengthen the local economy. Sunny 101.9
- ➤ Snowmobile season officially began on Dec. 1 in Upper Michigan and riders are advised to follow county road safety rules. Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt said riders must cross at a 45-degree angle during snowstorms—while Michigan DNR officials remind riders to carry both registration and trail permits. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Drivers in Michigan currently pay $2.96 per gallon for regular gas, which is 15 cents lower than last week and cheaper than prices from last month and last year. Eight Upper Michigan counties have prices below the state average, with Dickinson at $2.69 and Mackinac County at $3.26 — a sign of lower fuel costs as holiday travel winds down. - ➤ NMU Construction Management students worked on an old storage room at the St. Vincent de Paul store and gave it new purpose for testing electronics—holding auctions and extra storage. The group will present the project on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Founders Room at the Northern Center and everyone is welcome to attend. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ On December 1, M-DOT's Dan Weingarten spoke on Mark & Walt in the Morning and offered winter driving tips such as slowing down, increasing following distance, and checking tires and brakes — he stressed the 200-foot rule behind snowplows required by Michigan law. Sunny 101.9
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians opened its Marquette Tribal Health Center on Monday at 1210 S Front St to offer primary and traditional medicine care free of charge (treaty right) to tribal members. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and plans to add dental and pharmacy services later. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ UPHS — Marquette received the 2025 Safely Averting NTSV Cesareans Award for reducing 11 first-time low-risk cesarean births since January; the recognition honors their labor and delivery team for using evidence-based care—ensuring safe outcomes for mothers and babies. - ➤ The NMU women’s basketball team swept Crookston with a 78-63 win on Sunday — they outscored the Golden Eagles 29-16 in the third quarter — and improved to an 8-1 record as they prepare to start conference play on December 4. WZMQ 19
- ➤ On Saturday afternoon, NMU beat Duluth 79 to 53 thanks to strong defense and efficient offense — Brooks Hinson scored 13 points while key players controlled rebounds and limited Duluth’s top scorer. - ➤ The 12th ranked Michigan Tech men’s basketball team beat Lakeland 92-56 in their home opener at SDC Gymnasium Saturday—12 players scored in double figures with Ty Fernholz leading at 16 points. The Huskies extended their 14-game home winning streak and improved their season mark to 6-1. WZMQ 19
- ➤ USA Today ranked Mount Bohemia third among top ski resorts in North America, ahead of Colorado icons like Aspen and Vail. The resort will open Saturday December 6th—its earliest opening in 25 years—as it prepares to deliver expert skiing in a no-frills setting. WZMQ 19
