- ➤ Local groups and businesses in Marquette will serve Thanksgiving meals and take-out options on Thursday with special buffet lineups and hours at sites such as Dry Dock Bar and Grill, Big Boy, and Holiday Inn—regional events are also set in Harvey, Baraga, and Calumet, so residents should call ahead to reserve plates. - ➤ President Chuck Blaksmith of the Rotary Club of Marquette presented a $2,600 gift to Nancy Uschold of Ambucks to fund two adaptive tricycles for people with disabilities — the club will use $25,000 from its annual Golf Outing proceeds for grants to local organizations. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Marquette Township held its annual Goodwill Christmas tree lighting Tuesday evening indoors at Westwood Mall due to rain—hundreds gathered for free food, dancing and a visit from Santa while law enforcement apprehended a man dressed as the Grinch. - ➤ Marquette’s Peter White led Michigan’s efforts at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, arranging for I.M. Weston to transfer the Michigan Building to Governor Rich on April 29 and chartering a train that carried nearly the entire city government to the fair—officials and visitors marveled at exhibits like the World’s Largest Load of Logs and a detailed mining display while plans for a Michigan-Wisconsin Columbian Club emerged on May 12. - ➤ Meditate Marquette will hold mindfulness meditation sessions on December 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library Heritage Room, and Dr. Debra Smith will lead short talks on meditation on the first and third Tuesdays—other Tuesdays will feature longer sessions and a time for fellowship. - ➤ NMU men's basketball won 69-51 on Saturday when four Wildcats scored in double figures and a 36-20 run in the second half gave them a strong lead. The team is now 3-1 and will host Concordia today at 2 p.m.—their home opener for the season. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Graduate forward Dylan Kuehl scored a career-high 35 points in a win over Northern State and added an 18-16 double-double against Northwest Missouri State, earning him GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. The Wildcats will host Concordia today at 2 p.m.—his strong performance moved him into NMU's top 10 all-time scoring list and led the conference in scoring. WZMQ 19
- ➤ NMU’s men’s and women’s soccer teams have 12 Wildcats honored with Academic All-District awards after earning a 3.50 GPA or higher, as selected by College Sports Communicators on November 25. Some honorees will advance to the national ballot for further recognition—underscoring their academic and athletic success. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The NMU Wildcats lost game two to Bemidji State—6-2 as injuries reduced their forward lineup and a delay after the anthem held play for 11 minutes. The team will host Minnesota State Mavericks during Thanksgiving weekend at the Berry Events Center. WZMQ 19
