- ➤ Ore Dock Brewing Co. is accepting perishable donations in partnership with United Way of Marquette County until December 2—as items will be distributed to local food pantries. Donors may drop off fresh, refrigerated or frozen items such as meats, dairy, eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt at the tap room at 114 Spring St. WZMQ 19
- ➤ US Army MP Officer Dylan Oysti returned from his overseas deployment in Stugart, Germany last Friday and surprised his little sister at Escanaba Jr/Sr High School during lunch—he showed a video that stunned the cafeteria. - ➤ A church in Skandia is hosting the Holiday Bake Sale, Bits, and Pieces to raise funds for digital mapping of grave sites—money raised will pay for drone and ground radar technology to update records for Emanuel and Haglund cemeteries. - ➤ On November 20, Equity for All held a bake sale in Jamrich to raise funds for the Marquette Women's Center and to spread awareness about the wage gap issue in America. - ➤ Marquette area home school families are invited to a winter solstice event on Dec. 3 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library Youth Services and Teen Zone where families can tour the Winter Solstice Art and Tree Exhibit, join a craft and scavenger hunt, and let teens enjoy special activities — children under 8 must be with an adult and there is no admission charge. - ➤ On Friday morning, the final LSCP Breakfast and Business meeting focused on education as local leaders discussed school updates, state budget challenges and the need for better mental health support for students—panelists included Bryan DeAugustine, Mike Smith and Greg Nyen. - ➤ UP Health System-Marquette's Patient and Family Advisory Council is recruiting community members to help guide patient care improvements—Council co-chairs Michelle Augustyn and Dale Moilanen said joining the team will increase input on care decisions. Sunny 101.9
- ➤ On Nov 12th, the West End Health Foundation hosted a business after hours event at Jerzi’s 41 in Champion—awarding $90,000 in fall grants to 11 groups supporting local health and wellness. The foundation gave $40,000 in proactive grants, including $10,000 to The Salvation Army of Marquette County, and $50,000 in programmatic grants—boosting services across the West End. - ➤ Northern Michigan volleyball players received postseason recognition from the GLIAC—senior McKenzie Gruner earned a First Team nod while juniors Liesl Haugen and Allie Barlow joined the Second Team and sophomore Madison York got an Honorable Mention—highlighting key stats from a standout season. - ➤ Nine NMU football players were named to the All-GLIAC First and Second Teams following a record-setting season—Noah Dobert led with a 406-yard, four-touchdown game against Wayne State while others including junior linebacker Jax Hertel and sophomore running back Jahi Wood supported the Wildcats’ strong performance. - ➤ Northern Michigan redshirt freshman running back Noah Dobert was named GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year after setting NMU records with 1,656 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns—he posted a record-breaking 406-yard, four-touchdown game against Wayne State. His performance ranked him among top Division II players and helped his team set a program record of 3,123 rushing yards this season. WZMQ 19
- ➤ USA Luge announced the U.S. Alpine Luge Team for the 2025-26 season—four members with Marquette ties include Thomas Matthews, Torrey Cookman, Katie Cookman and McKenna Wnuk. The team will travel to Austria and Italy to train and compete in Alpine Luge World Cup races starting in early December and continuing through February. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Michigan Tech coach Dan Mettlach was named GLIAC Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 7-4 season and 13 All-GLIAC honors—this marked the first time since 2010 a Tech coach won the award, with UP natives Basanese and Nora earning first-team selections. WZMQ 19
