- ➤ First Presbyterian Church in Marquette will stuff stockings for active military personnel from Michigan on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—donations of snacks, travel-sized games, or holiday candy can be dropped off at the church office on Thursday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Feeding America West Michigan hosted drive-thru food pantry events—one at the Salvation Army in Escanaba at 10 a.m. Eastern and one at Northern Michigan University’s Berry Events Center at noon Eastern—that helped families in need. - ➤ The Thanksgiving Market will return to Marquette this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marquette Commons where 18 vendors inside and over 10 outside will offer Thanksgiving staples like turkeys, squash, and potatoes along with crafts and handmade goods; shoppers with EBT cards will receive $40 in Bonus Bucks at the market booth. - ➤ United Way of Marquette County is launching an early Giving Tuesday campaign that will run until December 2 to support local nonprofits serving food, housing, transportation, and health needs. - ➤ The Downtown Marquette Winter Snow Fun Holiday Parade will be held Friday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. starting at the Berry Events Center and traveling along Third Street to the Marquette Commons, where Santa will greet children and the Marquette Post Office will collect letters for Santa — a free event that marks the start of the holiday season. - ➤ Gales of November: Shipwrecks on Lake Superior exhibition at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center now features new panels with underwater photos and firsthand accounts from NMU expeditions in 1978 and 1979 that studied wrecks off Isle Royale— the exhibit runs until Dec. 20 and is free to visit. - ➤ Northern Michigan University students are preparing for Thanksgiving break starting Saturday—with many looking forward to family meals or a break from studies before classes resume December 1 and finals begin December 8. WZMQ 19
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ely Township bought nearly 20 acres of Barnes Hecker Mine property in Ishpeming for $115,000 and plans to build a memorial park for the 100th anniversary of the 1926 mining disaster that killed 51 men. Township clerk Glenn Wing said the park will have a garden, a paved 1,800-foot walking trail and statues — all designed to honor those who lost their lives. The Mining Journal

- ➤ The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said its doula registry had over 1,000 doulas, more than doubling the goal of 500 by 2028—over 700 of whom became Medicaid-enrolled providers to support better care for mothers and babies. - ➤ During the holiday season, Aspirus warned that travel, stress—and changes in diet can worsen heart problems if people do not take their prescription medications as directed.
