- ➤ Marquette Alternative High School announced it will launch the Rock the Socks campaign to collect 8,000 pairs of new socks for those in need from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12. The socks can be dropped off at several locations (Marquette Alternative High School, Marquette Senior High School, Embers Credit Union, Peter White Public Library, Wattson & Wattson Jewelers) and will be donated to groups such as St. Vincent De Paul, The Warming Center, The Beacon House and The Women’s Shelter. - ➤ Marquette’s mediaBrew communications is hosting the 23rd annual Christmas is for Veterans gift drive for the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans—donors should drop off specific requested items like personal care supplies and clothing at MediaBrew Communications or Super One in Marquette and Negaunee before 12:00 p.m. on December 18th—. - ➤ A church in Ishpeming is hosting its annual Christmas Shopping Party this Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church—17 vendors and a homemade soup dinner will raise funds for Cancer Care of Marquette County. Upper Michigan's Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marquette's shoreline project is almost finished after damage from storms led to moving Lakeshore Boulevard 300 feet inland with a $2 million FEMA grant and a $2.5 million National Coastal Resiliency grant that the city is matching. The new shoreline will change with the waves and have native plants added on dunes and wetlands next spring and summer—helping to improve habitat and water quality. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Several U.P. lawmakers are introducing a bill to designate a 7-1/2-mile portion of U.S. 41—running from U.S. 2 to County Road 372—as SPC David Anthony Wilkey Jr. Memorial Highway to honor a soldier killed in Iraq in 2007; the measure passed the Michigan House and now awaits Senate review. - ➤ Northern Michigan University men's soccer team won the 2025 GLIAC Tournament Championship with a 1-0 win over Saginaw Valley State as Tyler Kowalczyk scored the game-winning goal and four teammates earned All-GLIAC Tournament honors — head coach Alex Fatovic praised the team's remarkable turnaround after a season that saw them rise from last place to champions. - ➤ Northern Michigan senior McKenzie Gruner earned GLIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week after posting 33 kills in two matches this past weekend. The Wildcats closed the season with back-to-back wins and will host the GLIAC quarterfinal match vs. Parkside today at 6 p.m.—a key step into the postseason. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Northern Michigan football ended its season with a historic sweep of GLIAC weekly awards as running back Noah Dobert broke school rushing records, defensive back Jeremiah Gossett made two key interceptions, and kicker Michael Karlen made all his kicks in a win against Wayne State—setting new team records. - ➤ NMU men’s soccer team will face Cedarville in the DII NCAA Tournament on Thursday, November 20 at 2 p.m. in Claremore, Oklahoma—this marks their first trip to the tournament after qualifying with a seven-game unbeaten streak in the GLIAC Playoffs.
