- ➤ The Superior Beekeeping Club will host a potluck and auction at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Ore Dock Brewing Company in Marquette—attendees are asked to bring a dish and may donate auction items to support beekeeping education. The Mining Journal
- ➤ On November 13, 2025, Kindness Rocks U.P. launched the Snow Angel project to connect neighbors who need help clearing snow with volunteers using a QR code on a provided sign—property owners can tip volunteers who then receive local gift cards. The nonprofit also plans to expand the effort with a Lawn Angel project during warmer months—ensuring continued community support. WZMQ 19
- ➤ United Way of Marquette County is raffling a one-of-a-kind, autographed Detroit Red Wing lithograph that bears signatures from players in a 2013 Alumni Showdown and Hall of Famers — all proceeds will support 26 local nonprofits. The raffle sells $25 tickets, limited to 500 buyers, and the drawing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 18. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Little Brothers — Friends of the Elderly will host a free Thanksgiving dinner for seniors on November 27 at the Marquette Elks Lodge #405 on 127 N. Front St., with doors opening at 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will deliver meals between noon and 1:30 p.m. for those who cannot attend and offer transportation—reserve your meal by calling 906-273-2575. - ➤ Girly Pop, known for its dirty sodas with mixed flavors, opened its drive-thru in Marquette on Thursday at (3125 Wright Street) where it also offers coffees, lemonades, pretzel-bites and mini pancakes. Owner Brooke Grondin said customers received raffle tickets with each drink and one winner will be drawn for a 24oz drink a week for 52 weeks. WZMQ 19

- ➤ Marquette Interfaith Forum will host the annual Evening of Thanks at the Marquette Hope Connection Center, 927 W. Fair Ave., on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The service includes shared readings, chanting, music and prayer + will be followed by bread, spread and beverage sharing with gluten- and dairy-free options available, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish. - ➤ Jesse Koenig from NMU has been named the next Upper Peninsula Poet Laureate as Beverly Matherne concludes her term; he will represent all 15 counties while Matherne used her role to visit local schools and share poetry. - ➤ Marquette's art community will celebrate 25 years of the Holiday Art Sale when the Marquette Regional History Center hosts the event on Saturday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—a $2 donation lets visitors view holiday art, see the Dollhouse Days exhibition, and join a raffle for a gift basket. - ➤ The Marquette County String Orchestra is a new group for adults who play violin, viola, cello or bass and want to refresh their skills. The group will perform Christmas carols at Westwood Mall on December 20 from 3-4 p.m. and will meet monthly at St Paul's Episcopal Church starting in 2026. The Mining Journal

- ➤ The Latinx Student Union at Northern Michigan University is facing a potential loss of funding after NMU adopted strict compliance guidelines linked to new executive DEI orders — its vice president said the union, which has always promoted open events, is now planning fundraisers to support its activities. - ➤ Northern Michigan University faculty released a letter last night in support of Queers and Allies after the administration cut DEI funding in late September. The group is holding Lavender Graduation on Dec 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.—an event it will host without university assistance while funding practices are under review. The North Wind
- ➤ On November 13, Marquette Area Public Schools released community survey results that will shape a plan to address $100 million in facility needs. Superintendent Zack Sedgwick said the survey showed strong support for a $60 million bond proposal and the district will use the data to improve buildings for students and staff — a major step toward necessary upgrades. - ➤ Representatives from the Michigan League for Public Policy and the Michigan Education Association said that the state’s new investment in education will allow districts to hire more teachers, improve curricula, and reduce class sizes. The new $24.1 billion education budget and a state board resolution require schools to limit class sizes to 20 students for grades K-3, 23 for grades 4-8, and 25 for grades 9-12 by the 2030–31 academic year.
