COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Maureen McFadden has led the Marquette Senior Center since 2018 and was named the top director in the state by the Michigan Association of Senior Centers—an honor earned through staff nominations—and she will add more programs to help 5,000 seniors.   • U.P. Home Health and Hospice and U.P. Private Duty Services are hosting a holiday giveaway that will award two smart TVs when donors provide three nonperishable food items or a new children's toy with a minimum value of $5. Participants may drop off donations at the Marquette location at 1125 West Ridge Street and at the Ishpeming location at 510 Mather Avenue until Nov. 28 for the TV6 Canathon and until Dec. 10 for Toys for Tots — details are available by phone.  The Mining Journal
  • Marquette’s Ladies Night Out returns Thursday in downtown Marquette with extended hours from noon to 8 p.m. and 77 local businesses participating, with passports available at Bromley’s Books, Forsberg Flowers, Everyday Wines or Marquette Commons for a $2 donation to benefit the Marquette Women’s Center. Attendees who visit 10 businesses will be entered to win one of eight gift baskets—those who visit three Third Street businesses will be entered to win a larger gift basket.  Upper Michigan's Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan rose to an average of $3.09 per gallon — a 14.7 cent increase over the past week — based on a survey of 4,913 stations by GasBuddy; the state's prices are 17.5 cents higher than a month ago and 8.6 cents above last year's level.  The Mining Journal

  • On November 11th, Alexis Betts from Active Physical Therapy explained the role of pediatric physical therapy in supporting baby crawling development at the Marquette Clinic—she detailed why crawling matters and noted signs that may call for therapy.  Sunny 101.9
  • The third annual Marquette Holistic Health Fair will be held at the Northern Center at NMU this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—over 60 vendors will offer equine-based therapy, crystals, and meditation, and event coordinator Michelle Nichols said the free event will also offer door prizes.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northern Michigan running back Dobert earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after he carried the ball 33 times for 243 yards, scored four touchdowns, and hit the game-winning two-point conversion in a 47-45 four-overtime win at Davenport on Saturday—his effort matched his career high and brought the Wildcats their first victory there since 2021.  WZMQ 19
  • NMU women's soccer beat Ferris State 2-0 today in a GLIAC quarterfinal that moved the Wildcats into the semifinals for the sixth straight season—now they await three other match results to set their opponent for the semifinal on Friday, November 14th. The win highlights the team's strong season performance, building on a record of three clean sheets in recent games.  WZMQ 19
  • The Northern Michigan women's cross country team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II National Championships after finishing fourth at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Kenosha — key runners posted strong times at the event. They will compete on November 22 at 11 a.m. ET, marking the program’s tenth appearance on the national stage.  WZMQ 19
  • NMU swimmers Anika Wright and diver Kalina Ceglinski were honored as GLIAC athletes of the week after strong performances last weekend. The team will travel to Grand Rapids on December 4 for the Calvin College Invite with sessions at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. as they build on early season success.  WZMQ 19
  • NMU women's basketball won three games at the CCA Tip-Off Classic by beating Edinboro 65-50, with Pytleski scoring a career-high 14 points—helping the Wildcats secure a weekend sweep—and the team will travel to Wisconsin Dells to face Upper Iowa on November 14 and Lewis on November 15.  WZMQ 19
  • The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team won a close game on Saturday night by beating fifth-ranked Gannon 60-58 at the CCA Tip-Off Classic, with Jacy Weisbrod scoring 16 points. The Wildcats took an early lead, held off a late surge from Gannon, and improved their record to 2-0.  WZMQ 19
  • Michigan Tech earned a 4—2 win over Northern Michigan on Saturday at Berry Events Center to complete a sweep and extend their winning streak to seven; coach Bill Muckalt praised key plays by Lauri Raiman and Carson Latimer. The Huskies improved to a 7—3—0 overall record and will host Bemidji State next weekend.  WZMQ 19
