COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Nov. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee will hold its 21st Annual Community Awards Luncheon at the Marquette Holiday Inn—12 awards will be presented and the $28 luncheon includes pork tenderloin, red skin potatoes, salad, a vegetable, dessert and beverage.   • Superior Health Foundation announced a $65,000 allocation to help food pantries in the U.P. as delayed SNAP benefits pushed more working families to seek aid — local groups have reported rising need. Sixty thousand dollars will go directly to pantries and five thousand dollars supports a TV6 Can-a-thon match — funds that will be quickly distributed to meet community needs.  The Mining Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, some drivers were caught off guard by measurable snow and local police urged checks of batteries, tire pressure, and wiper blades to prevent emergencies. The National Safety Council offered guidance—such as using winter tires and proper fluid levels—to help motorists prepare for icy roads.  The Mining Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • U.P. Home Health and Hospice is celebrating National Care at Home Month throughout November by hosting events that include employee appreciation from November 10-14, a donation for veterans on November 10, private Veterans Day ceremonies on November 11, and discussions about hospice care on November 18 at Negaunee Senior Center and November 25 at Ishpeming Senior Center. The campaign aims to refocus hospice by emphasizing living, support, and education—helping families and caregivers manage care at home.  The Mining Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marquette — The Northern Michigan Wildcats hockey team lost two games to Michigan Tech with scores of 4-1 and 4-2, leaving them winless at 0-12 this season. They will play next on November 21-22 at Bemidji State and host Minnesota State-Mankato on November 28-29 at home.  The Mining Journal
