- ➤ Texas Roadhouse will continue its Veterans Day tradition by offering free meal vouchers to veterans and active duty military next week on Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all locations, and vouchers are redeemable for one of 10 entrees until May 31 with proof of service required. - ➤ Marquette business Jilbert Dairy and a generous benefactor gave away all 1,000 gallons of 2% milk along with extra whole and skim milk on Thursday to help residents facing food insecurity during the government shutdown—customers picked up milk throughout the day as cars and bikes lined up outside the facility. - ➤ On Friday, the Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle Campaign at Marquette Commons to raise funds for holiday help and year-round services—children from Marquette and Alger Counties sang for the crowd and a trophy was awarded to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. - ➤ Community donors have set up a long-term endowment fund to support the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, a 47-mile path connecting Marquette, Negaunee + Ishpeming. - ➤ SNAP benefits were halted on November 1, and Northern Michigan University has seen increased visits to its food pantry as many students face rising food insecurity. NMU is offering additional funds and emergency grants to help SNAP recipients through extended pantry hours and local donation drives — efforts that address urgent needs amid federal delays. - ➤ The Michigan DNR is urging hunters to follow safety practices for deer hunting as the firearm season will begin on Nov. 15— they will require proper licensing, tagging, safe firearm handling, and respect for landowner rights on both public and private lands. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Virginia Charles, a school counselor at K.I. Sawyer Elementary, created a resource hub that lists many groups offering help with food, utility, and cash needs during the government shutdown— the hub gathers local aid from Alger, Baraga, Marquette, and Schoolcraft counties. - ➤ Marquette officials announced that the 1500 block of Division Street from Hampton Street to Furnace Street will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 through Friday, Nov. 14 (the closure is to protect public and worker safety, so drivers should avoid approaching crews). - ➤ The Western U.P. Health Department shut down its Healthy Connections program Friday after grant cuts and staffing challenges led to a loss of support for the recovery service that helped 100 people a year—officials added that they will assist affected residents in finding other providers while considering a revised program in the future. - ➤ NMU head football coach Shane Richardson resigned effective immediately after nearly three seasons—Athletic Director Rick Comley said the search for a new coach will begin while interim coach Billy Lindquist leads the team and Assistant Coach Joe Gatz returns on November 10 to help with preparations for the final game on November 15 at 1 p.m. in the Superior Dome.
