EDUCATION NEWS

  • NMU piano students held a piano pedagogy recital Saturday at the Women’s Federated Clubhouse, where they performed pieces submitted by local piano teachers for young players. The students practiced for a month and played music ranging from jazz to classical — a service-learning event that connected them with community youth.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Close to 100 riders competed in the 2-mile UPCROSS Choco-X cyclocross race in Harvey on Saturday as part of the fall series—steep hills and mud puddles made the race a challenge for all ages. Organizers said the event ended with an afterparty at Marquette Commons.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • On Saturday, NMU women’s wrestling started its season at the Pointer Open in Stevens Point when Abbie Miles won the title in the 180-pound class and four Wildcats earned top-five finishes from a 16-16 record. The team will travel to Adrian for the Adrian Open on November 9.  WZMQ 19
  • Michigan Tech football beat Roosevelt 56-31 at Kearly Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 7-2 after outscoring their opponent 35-7 in the second half—Nic Nora led with three touchdowns in a strong GLIAC performance.  WZMQ 19
  • NMU volleyball lost to the Parkside Rangers on Saturday in a three-set match that ended 16-25, 25-27, 16-25—McKenzie Gruner recorded 12 kills while Parkside’s Ava Irvin led with 15, and the Wildcats now stand at 11-13 and will begin a four-game homestand on Friday at 4 p.m. against top-seeded Ferris State.  WZMQ 19
