Marquette County is seeking volunteers to drive seniors to appointments as the RSVP program has only three drivers after completing 130 rides last year.

Volunteers must be 55 or older, have a valid license and vehicle, pass a background check, and will be reimbursed 70 cents per mile.

The Superior Watershed Partnership is the only organization in the U.P. that distributes Michigan Energy Assistance Program funds as utility bills rise with winter coming, and funding has increased from about $2.5 million to $5 million while eligibility now includes households at about 200% of the poverty line—neighbors are urged to share this info if they need help.

After a month of renovations, the Marquette Salvation Army store reopened Thursday with a refurbished floor, new dressing rooms and other updates.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that Michigan will provide $4.5M to the Food Bank Council of Michigan to help feed families when SNAP benefits pause on November 1.

The funds will be used in all counties — they will deliver food to those who cannot drive.
