- ➤ Trick-or-treat times have been announced for Upper Peninsula towns, and Marquette residents can trick-or-treat from 4-7 p.m.—other towns set hours from 4-7 or 5-7:30 p.m. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Volunteer crews have reorganized and repainted the Salvation Army Family Store to support local social service efforts—renovations are nearly complete. The store will reopen tomorrow, October 30. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ SuperiorLand Pet Partners is offering a quarterly Handlers Class on Saturday, Nov. 8 in Marquette — this training is the first step to joining the international pet therapy team and requires pre-registration. Interested volunteers can register by calling Patty at 906-485-5815. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Trucks from many power companies gathered Tuesday in Marquette to honor Jack Rantanen, a lineman who was struck and killed while working on M-553 on October 20—crews formed a tunnel with flags and road signs on North Third Street for his funeral procession at Canale Tonella Funeral Home. - ➤ The Lake Superior Art Association announces its 2025-26 Visual Arts Grants to offer up to $5,000 in funding for individuals, groups, or organizations in Marquette county to purchase art supplies—applications must be submitted by Nov. 15 with winners notified in January. The Mining Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ NMU held an Open Lab Day Tuesday afternoon that allowed hundreds of high school students from Marquette County, Menominee, Wakefield and the Copper Country to explore seven interactive labs in clinical sciences—providing hands-on experience with real hospital equipment and a chance to meet current NMU mentors. Organizers said the event gave students a clear look at potential career paths in health and science. Upper Michigan's Source
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ TV6 is investigating how insurance coverage measures up to rising breast cancer trends in Marquette after a local nonprofit and Marquette doctors explained that many plans only pay for routine screenings starting at age 40 even though younger women are increasingly at risk. They said experts recommend earlier screening for high-risk patients and future updates may follow if research confirms the shift. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Michigan's state budget will give $270 million to expand the Rx Kids program—designed to help new moms with cash during pregnancy and after birth—by growing it from 11 communities to many more in the Upper Peninsula. The program is scheduled to begin reaching additional families early 2026. WZMQ 19

- ➤ Junior Kalia Ceglinski from NMU — a standout diver — won four gold medals over the weekend and was named GLIAC Female Diver of the Week after taking the top spots in the 1-meter and 3-meter events against nationally ranked teams. She now has eight wins this season and will compete against Wayne State on November 7 and November 8 at the PEIF Pool. WZMQ 19
- ➤ On Tuesday night the NMU Wildcats edged Michigan Tech in a thrilling five-set match at Vandament Arena as senior McKenzie Gruner recorded a career-high 24 kills— the win improved NMU's GLIAC record to 7-3 and tied them for third place, keeping postseason hopes alive. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Marquette forward Luca Rosen was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two decisive goals in a 3-0 win over St. Cloud State on Sunday—he also shot 10 times against Parkside and leads the conference in shots this season. WZMQ 19
