- ➤ Marquette County’s Evergreen Award was given out Monday at the Holiday Inn in Marquette — the award recognized former library director Pam Christensen for her long-time volunteer work supporting women and girls in the community. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The David and Thu Brulé YMCA of Marquette County opened its new field house Tuesday night with a turf field, pickleball and tennis courts, batting cages and a soccer area for programs and community rentals—work on the facility began this summer. - ➤ NICE Community Schools will hold its fourth annual Aspen Ridge Haunted Walk on Friday, Oct 24 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. — the event features a half-mile lantern-lit walk starting at Westwood High tennis courts, a brief intermission from 7 to 7:30 p.m., and tickets at $5 per person with a $20 family cap. - ➤ Outdoor recreation retailers in Marquette are preparing for winter—Down Wind Sports is holding a tent sale on October 18 to clear out summer gear and introduce new winter products. The Compound Ski and Snowboard Shop is offering boot fitting and equipment service—while the Marquette Mountain Racing Team will host a winter sports swap on November 8 with gear drop-off starting October 27. - ➤ Jersey Mike’s signed a lease for a new store at 3195 Wright Street in Marquette — its first location in the Upper Peninsula. The fast food chain will open the restaurant in the first or second quarter of 2026 and serve fresh sliced and grilled sub sandwiches on baked bread. WZMQ 19

- ➤ The Marquette Art Tour will take place Saturday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m.—4 p.m. in Marquette and will let visitors explore galleries and studios that display work from over 150 local and regional artists. - ➤ On the first day of the fall semester, Queers and Allies at NMU learned that the Office of Opportunity, Empowerment, and People and Housing and Residence Life would no longer help fund or plan events—prompting the group to plan a silent auction to raise money for its annual Drag Show and Lavender Graduation. - ➤ Marquette’s Superior Watershed Partnership received $360K from the Michigan Public Service Commission today to expand renewable energy services. The grant funds electric car chargers, solar panel installations for low-income homes, and home energy assessments—measures aimed at lowering utility bills and increasing renewable options.
