- ➤ The David and Thu Brulé YMCA of Marquette County is hosting a community open house today from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at their new fieldhouse on Fair Avenue — a 19,200 sq. ft. facility featuring a turf field, batting cages, a tennis court and three pickleball courts. Sunny 101.9

- ➤ NMU students and faculty gathered near the university’s land acknowledgment site on Monday to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day by showcasing traditional clothing and Indigenous artwork—each ribbon carrying a special meaning as noted by Native American Student Association President Christopher Shawa. - ➤ Marquette-Alger RESA held its Fall Education Conference Monday at NMU’s Northern Center—drawing 880 educators who learned to use data for better teaching. - ➤ Marquette Area Public Schools superintendent Zack Sedgwick recently held an informational forum on a potential increase in the sinking fund millage that may appear on the May ballot — he noted that details will be refined in future discussions. The Mining Journal

- ➤ The Caregiver Incentive Project has launched the Success Fund to provide financial support to paid and unpaid caregivers facing barriers in Upper Michigan. Caregivers will receive awards within 15 days to help cover costs like childcare, car repairs or uniforms ($150 to $200 per check) (funded by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with MSU Impart Alliance). SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ NMU football lost 35-7 to Grand Valley at the Superior Dome Saturday night—four touchdowns in the second half ended a 7-7 tie at halftime. NMU is now 0-3 overall and will travel to play the Roosevelt Lakers next Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m. ET. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The NMU men's soccer team tied 1-1 with Davenport Panthers — Luca Rosen scored in the 68th minute from a free kick after a foul outside the box and Davenport equalized when Ryan Sheffer headed a rebound. The Wildcats, who played with an extra man despite 30 MPH wind, will meet Davenport again on Friday in a road game. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The Lake Superior Performance Rally will take place Oct. 17–18 with new routes and a downtown celebration to cap off the event, and the Parc Expose is now set for Thursday evening at Fox Marquette Subaru instead of Friday morning. - ➤ MTU women's soccer won 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at NMU Soccer Field when Olivia Gette scored from a corner kick, marking their first win in Marquette since Sept. 30. Coach Melissa Kuhar praised the team's strong defense and noted the shutout by Bri Barrows and Gette’s first career goal—key moments in the game—will boost the Huskies as they prepare for a four-game road stand later this week. - ➤ Michigan Tech cross country teams finished 17th for women and 13th for men at the Lewis Crossover on Saturday, with freshman Hannah DuPuis leading the women and senior Michael Dennis setting a personal best for the men—coaches said the Huskies will race again Friday at Tech Trails with the men at 3:30 p.m. and the women at 4:15 p.m.—. - ➤ Hundreds of sled dogs raced at Negaunee Township Hall over the weekend as over 70 teams kicked off the 2025-26 mushing season—volunteers including Northern Michigan University students helped support the event. Mushers praised the ideal weather and scenic course as they set a strong pace for the coming season. WZMQ 19
