🚧 Accidents
Marquette City Fire Department and township fire units contained a brush fire that burned in a 30-foot square area at Park Street Cemetery early Sunday, and all units were cleared by 3 a.m.
🌲 Environment
A wildfire in Negaunee Township has grown from the 2-3 acre blaze first reported Friday near County Road 510 as high winds and challenging terrain complicate efforts.
DNR officials say lines are holding and the Michigan State Police Aviation Unit is assisting with water drops (Keith Murphy).
The wildfire near Craig Lake in Baraga County has grown since Thursday because high winds and rough terrain make battling it difficult; DNR crews remain on scene while suppression planes work on fires elsewhere (including a 4-acre blaze near Humboldt and smaller fires near Shingleton and in Luce County).
🏈 Sports
Spectators and mushers gathered in Negaunee Township this past weekend for the 10th annual UP200 Dryland Dash — drawing competitors from as far as Georgia and Missouri.
Race organizers shortened the course to one mile due to warm temperatures to keep the dogs safe.
