- ➤ The Up North Lodge in Gwinn raised over $48,000 at its last Bike Night fundraiser on Sunday night—money that will help local nonprofits. Manager Jesie Melchiori said funds have been raised since June and the restaurant will plan events for next summer. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Silver Creek Church is accepting appointments for Operation Winter Wear to provide winter gear for people in need. Appointments can be made by calling (906) 249-1715 for Oct. 15 and 16 from noon until 4:30 p.m., with walk-ins on Oct. 17 from noon until 3 p.m. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Organizer Dawn Lambert announced that a Poker Run to raise funds for Community Dinners Feeding Marquette County will be held this Saturday, October 4 with stops at eight locations—all proceeds from the run, basket raffle and 50/50 drawings will support local community meals. Sunny 101.9

- ➤ Folksy words and music will fill the Peter White Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 for the Fear Itself show—featuring storyteller B.G. Bradley, a two-time Upper Peninsula poet laureate, and guests Marty Achatz, Jacque Love, Big Lake Acoustic, Jim Edwards from the Marquette Children’s Museum, Nicole Walton and Whiskey Ryan—and the free event will offer poetry, storytelling, music and comedy. - ➤ Average gasoline prices in Michigan have dropped 14.1 cents per gallon to $2.98/g today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 4,913 stations. The prices are 34.1 cents lower than last month and 46.8 cents lower than last year — with the cheapest station at $2.58/g and the most expensive at $3.99/g. The Mining Journal

- ➤ John Hayek, one of NMU's presidential candidates, met with community members at the Northern Center on Monday afternoon and focused on plans to improve student success. He, who currently leads academic and health affairs at the Texas State University System, said his future decisions will support education + benefit Marquette and the Upper Peninsula. - ➤ The Michigan Education Trust’s prepaid tuition program lets families buy college tuition at today's rates to help them avoid student loans and move funds if a child's plans change. Marquette families can join the session today at U.P. Children's Museum from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. where each new contract earns—a $100 bonus. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Local first responders gathered today at the Marquette Municipal Service Center for a two-day hazmat training hosted by the State Police Hazardous Materials Training Unit+ the workshop provides hands-on practice in using advanced hazmat suits and safely responding to hazardous incidents. - ➤ Marquette City Commission voted unanimously on Monday night to amend the Brownfield reimbursement plan so developer Veridea can build integrated parking at the old hospital site for future developments. Mayor Jessica Hanley said the change will maximize taxable value—while the city begins a traffic study after residents reported concerns about congestion and speeding. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ NMU is hosting its second Mind Over Miles 5K run/walk on October 9 at 5:30 p.m. to boost the link between physical and emotional health—participants will follow a scenic route starting and ending at the Wildcat Statue and must register by 11:59 p.m. on October 5 for $20 or free for NMU students.
