- ➤ Today at Mont Ripley, community members ride the Husky Chairlift for a bird’s-eye view of vibrant fall colors and to support volunteer ski patrol work—tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for MTU students, $10 for ages 9 to 16 and are free for children 8 and under. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Ishpeming’s Mather Inn hosted Breakfast & Business on Friday morning as local outdoor recreation groups gathered for networking and economic updates. Brian Calley of the Small Business Association of Michigan and a panel of local leaders discussed challenges in outdoor recreation and announced the next event will focus on Education on November 21—promising more local collaboration. - ➤ Former NMU alum J.C. Vande Zande has published his novel 'Blood of the Witness Tree' just in time for Halloween from Montag Press—set in Michigan’s Pigeon River State Forest and serving as the sequel to his gothic horror novel 'The Dance of Rotten Sticks.' The Mining Journal
- ➤ The Peter White Public Library will host a photo show of the tropics at 7–8:30 p.m. on Oct 2, where local naturalist Scot Stewart and his family will display images from their May visit to Costa Rica—showing parks, animals, plants, and preserved national areas. The Mining Journal

- ➤ On Friday, students from Marquette and Alger counties visited Michigan State University Extension’s South Farm in Chatham to learn about local natural resources—they toured a farm on a tractor and learned fly fishing techniques. - ➤ David Erhart became the new manager at Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport on September 8 after serving as assistant manager since March, and he brings over 16 years of aviation experience to lead projects such as replacing jet bridges and modernizing the air traffic control tower. - ➤ MSP announced that First Lieutenant Tom Nolan retired after 25 years of service as commander of the Negaunee Post. He led field operations across Marquette and Alger Counties after joining in 2000—earning praise for his dedication. WZMQ 19
