- ➤ Feeding America West Michigan is hosting mobile food pantry events this week to help families in need. Food will be distributed in KI Sawyer and Baraga on Wednesday at noon Eastern and in Iron River and Newberry on Thursday afternoon—each event supports up to six families. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ NMU held its Homecoming Parade on Sept. 19 where thousands of students, alumni and locals watched NCAA wrestlers in Luchador masks plus tall basketball players dunk on 10-foot hoops while spectators lined the sand-colored sidewalks along East Fair Avenue and Third Street. Students competed in the Golf Cart Decorating Competition with the theme 'Tales From the Wild: Where Myths Meet Marquette' plus NMU’s Special Events Committee will host a plaid-themed event on Oct. 3 where students will throw axes, eat pancakes and take photos. - ➤ Messiah Lutheran Church has welcomed nine visitors from Tanzania who came to share in worship and build ties with local members—Pastor Molly Hunter said the church will hold a farewell potluck on Sunday, September 28. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Project Keep Kids Warm returns for its 16th year to give winter clothes to children in Marquette County after helping over 380 kids across six school districts last year, and local food pantries are preparing for a 20% rise in families needing support this fall and winter — all funds go directly to purchasing gear and food in bulk. - ➤ On September 24th, the Community Foundation of Marquette County named its 2025 Catalyst Award honorees—Crystal Fragogiannis, Shunk Furniture, The Salvation Army, and Helen McCormick—in recognition of their local contributions. - ➤ The Ishpeming Kiwanis Club will host its annual Ray Leverton fundraising breakfast on Sunday at St. John's KD Hall, serving Italian eggs, scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, ham + toast with coffee or orange juice and charging $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12 while kids under 5 eat free. - ➤ Northern Michigan University announced a new season of shows that will feature nationally known productions and locally written plays; Theatre and Dance Head Bill Digneit said tickets and season passes are available through NMU Ticketing Services—offering a range of live theatre options for local audiences. - ➤ A new exhibit at NMU shows the dangers of Great Lakes shipwrecks by featuring historic photos, weather maps, newspaper headlines, and artifacts that mark the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking & explain the fierce November storms that challenged sailors. WZMQ 19

- ➤ Students at NMU are encouraged to join clubs, student government and community events to build friendships and grow skills beyond the classroom. - ➤ Four candidates for the NMU presidency will visit campus starting next week and engage with students, teachers, stakeholders, and community members at community receptions. - ➤ Jeff Olson has spent 13 years sharing his son Daniel's story to help kids understand mental health and to reduce the stigma of suicide. - ➤ Aimee Emmons, a Delta County woman who lost her father to suicide on December 29 and survived her own attempt, is now working to heal by loving herself and helping others—she began her recovery after a life-changing talk with a friend. Upper Michigan's Source
