COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Protesters in Marquette wore black and held signs promoting free speech—an important civic act—along West Washington Street on Saturday.  The Mining Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Luova Art Fest will be held Oct. 10–12 at Crib Coffee House on North Third Street in Marquette—local bands and visual artists will fill the venue with live music and art as entry is by donation.  The Mining Journal
  • Shepherd David Berryhill competed at the North American Hill Sheep Show at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba where British judges scored his Wensleydale sheep — his animal won its category with ribbons and a trophy. He said his strong debut means he will return next year to build on this success.  Upper Michigan's Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host a hand sculpting event at Hot Plate in Marquette from 2 to 5 p.m.—artist Melissa will lead 15 participants while members pay $5, non-members pay $10, and a $20 materials fee is charged after class.  The Mining Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1900 will meet via Zoom at 1 p.m. on Wednesday—members will receive the meeting link by email and those not on the list should email to request access.  The Mining Journal
