COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, horse riders gathered at the Marquette County Fairgrounds for Sally’s Ride—an annual UPAWS fundraiser honoring Sally Paajanen who cared for horses. The event promoted horse education and raised funds for Sally’s Fund to support equines in need.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • The NMU women’s cross country team placed 3rd out of 24 teams on Saturday at the Roy Griak Invite in St. Paul — the best finish since 2016. Madi Szymanski led her team with a 5th place finish in a race of over 250 runners, while freshman Ashley Choponis finished 8th along with five other top-30 finishes.  WZMQ 19
  • The 10th annual Marji Gesick duathlon took place Saturday in Marquette as 500 racers and their support crews gathered at the Forestville Trailhead—starting with a half-mile run before riding 110 miles. The event saw 1,700 participants test their limits, and racers who finished in under 25 hours earned a coveted buckle.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • NMU Wildcats celebrated Homecoming 2025 outside the Superior Dome Saturday as northern students, fans, and alumni donned green and gold while enjoying drinks from a beer garden. Student organizations hosted booths and children cheered from a bounce house—adding to the festive support for the football team.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Northern Michigan's volleyball team lost to 12th ranked Ferris State in three straight sets—19-25, 23-25, 18-25—today at Vandament Arena. Sydney Bartels led the Wildcats with 11 kills as the team prepares to host Parkside on September 26 at 6 p.m.  WZMQ 19
