- ➤ The Marquette Unitarian Universalist Congregation moved to a new location at 1104 W. Washington St.—Suite A and hired a new minister, Rose Riedel, Mdiv, who began on Sept. 1. Services are held at 11 a.m. on Sundays and at 4:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday. The Mining Journal
- ➤ The Northern Michigan University Wildcat Farmers Market is set to return from 3-7 p.m. today behind the Northern Center—this free event will offer fresh produce, art, live music, free Zumba, and a tie-dying booth to bring together students and local community members. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Business leaders in Marquette County gathered on September 15 to connect with peers from technology—banking—health services at an Economic Club meeting. 906 Adventure Team Director Todd Poquette spoke on investing in youth programs and promoted local events such as Marji Gesick happening this weekend. - ➤ The Lake Superior Community Partnership has scheduled three upcoming events to boost business and economic development, including a free Business After Hours networking event at UP Health System Marquette tomorrow from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, a Breakfast and Business session with outdoor recreation updates on September 26 at Mather Inn in Ishpeming, and a Housing Now progress update on October 3 at the Ramada Inn in Marquette. - ➤ At a meeting on Sept 8, ASNMU students discussed nearly $5,000 in lost funding for Queers and Allies after the Office of Diversity and Inclusion rebranded to the Office of Opportunity, Empowerment and People—students now plan to seek help from the Student Finance Committee to restore the funds. - ➤ NMU held its second annual health care career fair Monday - more than 30 local employers met with students who presented resumes and asked questions. The event aimed to build a stronger health care workforce by giving students a chance to explore jobs in fields like critical care and hospice care. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ TV6 is partnering with Michigan Lottery to honor public school teachers with the Excellence in Education award—since 2014, one teacher each week has received $2,000, a plaque and a TV feature during news breaks. - ➤ Northern Michigan University will host a homecoming festival this Friday and Saturday that features an open-house for its Cold Case Program at 147 Gries Hall from noon to 4 p.m., a soccer match against the Parkside Rangers, a swim and dive contest at the PEIF Pool, and a parade along West Fair Avenue on Friday while Saturday brings a Golden Wildcat Brunch, a nursing panel, a historic walking tour, a tailgate party, and a football game against Davenport University beginning at 1 p.m.—each event planned to honor alumni and current students. - ➤ Marquette volunteers and groups from across Michigan will join thousands for the final Adopt-A-Highway cleanup from Sept.20 to Sept.28. The Michigan Department of Transportation will provide free safety vests and trash bags—volunteers must work in groups to keep highways litter-free. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Upper Peninsula lawmakers introduced a bill to create a Natural Resources Commission that would manage hunting and fishing rules+the change aims to address the region’s unique wildlife challenges. The legislation allows the Governor to appoint commissioners from a list provided by state lawmakers. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will host Hunter Appreciation: Deer Drop-In Mondays this fall—10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—to thank hunters with free items such as patches, stickers, hand warmers and gloves while helping with deer aging and chronic wasting disease testing at locations including the Marquette service center, with events on Nov. 3, Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Superior Health Foundation provided a Community Health Pilot Grant to YesRx to boost cancer medication access in the U.P.—the nonprofit plans to help more patients, including those in Indigenous communities, receive donated treatments at no cost.
