On Saturday afternoon, the Bark River community held its first annual Veterans Fundraiser led by the Peltier Bros.

Band to support the U.P. Honor Flight program, with donations, raffles and a silent auction funding therapy trips for veterans to Washington, D.C. Co-organizer Jeanette Peltier said about 300 to 500 people attended the event at the Patriot Barn—an important hub for local veteran support—and stressed the need for better awareness of available services.

Highland Clan Motorcycle Club hosted its Shine and Show Toy Run at the Negaunee Eagles Club #1944 to raise money for toys and school lunches for children around Marquette County.

The club will donate cash to support Negaunee Schools' weekend lunch program and plans a shopping spree for Christmas gifts on the first Friday evening in December.

Art on the Mountain is Marquette Mountain's fifth annual art fair where 14 vendors show paintings, sculptures, woodwork, and jewelry, and it is open today until 5 p.m.—organizers said visitors can also enjoy live music, face painting, and chairlift rides.

The Marquette County Suicide Prevention Alliance held its annual Walk for Hope on Saturday morning at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming—parents and survivors remembered loved ones lost to suicide.

Northern Michigan dropped a close game to Northwood 23-18 on Saturday at Hantz Stadium—NMU gained nearly 400 yards but had three turnovers that cost them the win.

NMU Women's XC finished second at the Phoenix Open in Green Bay on Saturday with the Wildcats earning 54 points as top finishers Madi Szymanski and Ashley Choponis placed in the top 10— the team will now prepare for the Roy Griak Invite on September 19.

On Friday, the Northern Michigan volleyball team lost its first game to Spring Hill College in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 17-25, 19-25) and was then defeated in straight sets by No. 15 Southwest Minnesota State.

NMU volleyball lost its final match at the SpringHill Suites Invitational—falling to West Florida in straight sets as the team lost 9-26, 16-25, and 17-25.

The Wildcats will travel to Minnesota next Thursday at 4 p.m. ET to play in the Huskies Volleyball Classic.

NMU women's soccer earned a 1-1 draw in their season opener under coach Egolf’s debut — the match saw St. Cloud State’s Grace Olson score first and Marquette native Isabella Lorens tie the game.
