United Way of Marquette County and Ore Dock Brewing Company will host Steins for Good, an Oktoberfest-inspired fundraiser on Sept.
27 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Ore Dock; the event will feature stein holding, costume contests + pretzel eating, with proceeds supporting local food security, housing and youth opportunity.

Marquette-Alger RESA partnered with ESS to encourage substitute teaching after a discussion on Mark & Walt in the Morning on Aug.
26. Area Manager Jamee Gobert explained the application process and eligibility for local districts and directed interested candidates to official websites for more details.
On Aug. 26, NMU’s Board of Trustees approved a $21 million sale of its Educational Access Network to Michigan Broadband Services, an Upper Michigan-based company pending FCC approval.
The university will work with the company to ease the transition for students and employees this fall.
Peter White Public Library invites residents to sign up for a library card to access books, online materials & study rooms this September.
The free, simple process requires a photo I.D. & proof of address and is open to Marquette residents, NMU students & eligible township residents.
The Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan said the Imagination Library continues delivering monthly free books to children 5 and under while planning to expand from its six local sites to serve more young readers across the U.P.
The program honors Dolly Parton’s legacy + makes every child feel valued.
School buses are back on the road today as law enforcement and bus drivers remind motorists to keep at least 20 feet away when yellow lights caution and red lights call for a stop, ensuring safe pick-up and drop-off of students.

Ishpeming City Council approved a five-year loan—provided by Nicolet Bank—to finance a $230K purchase of over 1,000 acres from Cleveland-Cliffs.
City officials said developers are interested in using the land for new housing while a closing date is set.
The We Energies Foundation donated $150,000 today to help first responders in Upper Michigan and Wisconsin purchase life-saving equipment.
This is the largest gift under its Rewarding Responders Grant program, which has supported police, fire, and EMS agencies since 2020.
