- ➤ The Marquette Federation of Women's Clubs held its first show Saturday to raise money for needed work on the 140-year-old Women's Federated Clubhouse— a historic place for women since 1926. Six more concerts are planned through March and each show will feature different music styles with donation-based admission. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Don Lawrence—former Army Corps engineer—introduced the first-ever 'Band Together for Local Vets' at Byce’s Michihistrigan Bar and Cabins in Gould City to raise funds for veterans. The event will have bands compete with winners sharing money evenly among Luce, Alger, Mackinac and Schoolcraft counties to help with winter emergencies. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ The Marquette Regional History Center presents Old Towne Forest Forensics — a guided hike through Old Towne in Negaunee to examine clues left by past human, climatic and geologic actions. Two tours will be held on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Jackson Mine Park Pavilion with pre-registration required and tickets costing $10 each. The Mining Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Michigan drivers now pay $3.20 for regular unleaded gas—an 18-cent jump from last week—as Labor Day travel nears; prices vary in Upper Michigan and the drop in gasoline supply and crude inventories adds to the cost. Local consumers may see differences with Houghton County averaging $3.16 and Mackinac County peaking at $3.47. Upper Michigan's Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials with MDOT said that many Upper Peninsula bridges are aging and face risk as funding lags, including the M-69 bridge over the Michigamme River (built in 1931) which is in poor condition. They warned that without new funding, more than 100 trunkline bridges will close by 2035 and affect nearly 1.8 million drivers daily. The Mining Journal
