Feeding America West Michigan hosted a mobile food pantry on Wednesday — the event stopped in Escanaba at the Salvation Army at 3001 5th Avenue S at 10 a.m. and in Marquette at the Berry Events Center at noon so families could pick up food drive-thru style.

Marquette’s Women’s Federated Clubhouse is hosting the Save the Clubhouse concert series to raise funds to preserve its historic building (built in June 1926) after it lost rental income during the pandemic.

The first concert will be held this Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m. with free-will donation admission and Blue Champagne performing vintage pop and swing music.

HarborFest 2025 returns to Mattson Lower Harbor Park from Aug.

21 to 23 as a fundraiser organized by Marquette Harbor Rotary; co-chairs Bryan Lopac and Pam Christensen have arranged musical acts, volunteer positions through Yoopers United, and activities for all ages (HarborFest).

Local artist Allison Hadjis began painting a new mural at Discovery Central Forest School last week that shows native animals—students helped fill in the blue and green sections.

The artwork will be finished by early September to welcome the new classes.

Northern Michigan University is ramping up for the Fall semester as it hosts Wildcat Wednesday events this week; the first day of classes is Monday.

Students can move into residence halls tomorrow from noon to 4:00 p.m. and join Fall Fest Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—the school is also searching for a new president and working on major campus construction projects.

On Tuesday, kids joined a week-long summer camp at the Marquette Regional History Center—partnered with Liberty Children's Art Project—where they learned about Michigan's history by drawing, sculpting, and building dioramas inspired by the Mad About Maps exhibit.

The camp combined art and history to engage young minds in creative learning.

During the 19th century, the United States military built and improved wagon roads, including the Keweenaw Military Wagon Road that connected Green Bay to Copper Harbor—routes later influencing modern roads like M-26.

The project was finished in sections by 1873—boosting local economic growth and paving the way for settlers.
