  • Marquette HarborFest will take place Thursday through Saturday at Mattson Lower Harbor Park — the event adds a new whitefish stand to its usual food vendors and the beer and wine tent. Music fills the weekend as it starts with a free 6:30 p.m. performance by the Marquette Symphony Orchestra.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter will host its 20th Annual Strut Your Mutt fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette — registration starts at 9 a.m. with the walk at 10 a.m. — and the event will offer refreshments, dog contests, prizes, and a chance for early registrants to be chosen as Leader of the Pack.  The Mining Journal

  • The Alger County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 65-year-old Starla Goings from Munising—she was last seen at her home on Peninsula Point Road in Munising Township late Friday after her family reported her missing on Aug 17—and local deputies and MSP conducted additional search efforts on Monday, urging anyone with information to call authorities.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency hosts a drop-in workshop today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MARESA Central Office—321 E. Ohio Street in Marquette—to guide interested candidates through the application process for substitute teaching and support roles.  WZMQ 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hogs For a Cause is happening today from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dry Dock Bar and Grill in Harvey—benefiting Cancer Care of Marquette County—co-sponsored by Bald Eagle Harley-Davidson. Representatives said the volunteer-driven non-profit helps cover costs for those fighting cancer in the county.  Sunny 101.9
  • Marquette nurses and technical staff held a practice strike at Harlow Park on Monday amid contract talks with UPHS-Marquette—nearly 100 workers protested inadequate staffing and warned that patient safety is at risk as other hospitals plan to reduce inpatient beds.  The Mining Journal
