- ➤ Investigators are continuing the 25-year-old murder case of 24-year-old Erin Taylor whose body was found badly decomposed on Aug. 20 in Marquette Township — police say no suspect has been identified while her friend Bonnie Dowd calls for new tips. Upper Michigan's Source
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, robotics students from across the Upper Peninsula display their ocean-themed robots at the state fair near the grandstand, where teams like Binary Crows 10589 and Deceivers 4392 have honed skills over six to seven weeks of work. The students will demonstrate their designs at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.—bringing hands-on learning and teamwork to fairgoers. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Marquette-Alger RESA is promoting the MI Tri-Share Child Care Program after Director Lyndsay Carey spoke on Mark — Walt in the Morning on August 15, saying Michigan employers will soon be invited to offer the benefit to help attract and retain workers. Sunny 101.9
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two new certified radon contractors in Au Train and Ishpeming boosted the region's service from three to five—67 percent more than last year. Officials said the boost followed a radon mitigation training course held in Marquette last September and will help cover the area’s need for radon testing and mitigation. WZMQ 19

- ➤ The NMU Regional Police Academy graduated 20 new officers in Marquette on Friday—19 of them have already signed on to work with local police and sheriff’s offices. - ➤ At Hurley Library on Monday, Dan Peterson of GIVN Network watched head trainer Margaret Vainio demonstrate the Finnish exercise Asahi in a session focused on slow, muscle-building moves — designed to improve balance, breathing and muscle strength.
