  • Ray Carlson was named U.P. Veteran of the Year at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba where Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist attended the ceremony; the Marquette man, who works with the D.J. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twenty-six Gladstone high schoolers completed a six-week, paid summer camp where they learned skills in electrical work, carpentry and plumbing—next year, Marquette-area students can join to gain similar career experience.  Upper Michigan's Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lieutenant Governor Garland Gilchrist attended the UP State Fair on Thursday during Honored Citizens Day and spoke about housing and health care issues facing local residents while listening to their concerns for future actions.  WZMQ 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent testing in Marquette homes found that 6 out of 32 samples had lead levels above 12 ppb — city officials say the problem comes from older plumbing and plan to increase monitoring every six months while sending out public education on reducing exposure. Residents are urged to take steps such as using certified lead-reducing filters until contaminated service lines are replaced.  WZMQ 19
