Construction on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail extension in Chocolay Township began yesterday and will add over 4 miles from Kawbawgam Road to Lakenenland Sculpture Park with ADA-accessible parking, a bicycle rack plus panels that explain the area's history; officials say the work will finish mid-September.
Marquette County Habitat for Humanity invites all past and present volunteers to Volunteer Appreciation Day Friday, Aug.
7 from 2-6 p.m. at the Negaunee Township Pavilion (42 M-35, Negaunee), where they will enjoy a complimentary BBQ lunch, family games and a Volunteer Recognition Program at 4:30 p.m.

The FAA extended departure restrictions between Chicago and Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport until Oct.

The Michigan Department of Transportation announced a TAP grant of over $482,000 for a Wilson Street multi-use pathway extension connecting neighborhoods, senior housing, grocery stores and the Iron Ore Heritage Trail; construction is set to begin early summer 2027.

Island Resort & Casino will preview its new Cedar Course for golf at $45 per round beginning Friday, Aug.
7. The nine‐hole course, inspired by Golden Age design, joins Sweetgrass and Sage Run to complete a culturally themed trilogy.
The UP Sports Hall of Fame council announced the 2027 class of 10 inductees, including local athletes and coaches from several communities.
