Ishpeming city declared August as RAMBA Month to honor the Range Area Mountain Bike Association for building over 80 miles of hand-built trails in Marquette County—trails that draw local bikers and hikers from near and far.

Officials approved the month in July and plan to support efforts to expand the trail network in the future.

A teenage boy drowned after he went underwater for several minutes while swimming with friends at Mehl Lake on July 30, and his friends and a bystander pulled him to shore while Forsyth Township Police, Fire & EMS and UP Health Systems Marquette responded but could not revive him.

The Lake Superior Theatre in Marquette is showing 'Forever Plaid' — a musical about a four-man harmony group who are killed in a car crash and return for one final performance, with shows running Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Cast member Tony Beacco and director Tina Holliday said the performance mixes nostalgic songs with a humorous twist.

Over the weekend, huge crowds saw vintage military aircraft, a Russian Cold War fighter jet and a Vietnam-era US helicopter at the former Ki Sawyer Force Base—this event produced by the Michigan Air Museum was the first show in Marquette.

On Monday morning, a new mural near 148 West Washington honored local artist Dan Cook—who passed away earlier in March and was known for his vibrant paintings of Marquette’s shoreline and downtown; the artwork is a print of one of his pieces installed by Cook Signs Service.

Northern Michigan University has started building new on-campus apartments behind Cohodas Hall along Presque Isle Avenue—replacing the Temaki restaurant to create 386 beds for upperclassmen with studios, two-bedroom and four-bedroom units.

The $58 million project will be completed in August 2027.

State lawmakers are reviewing a plan to invest $3M at Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport to strengthen flight options and modernize its facilities—local leaders say the upgrade will boost long-term economic growth.

Officials will complete route studies and plan improvements before the state finalizes its budget on Sept. 30.

Marquette Medical Urgent Care owner Dr. Shawn Brown said cases of hand, foot & mouth disease are rising as back-to-school season begins, with symptoms including itching, blisters on the hands and feet, sore throat and diaper rash in young children.

He advised families to wash their hands often to help reduce the risk of spreading the illness.

Marquette Junior Hockey announced that the 1st Annual Marquette Junior Hockey Power Play Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, September 6 at Marquette Golf Club—the Heritage course—with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start to raise funds for travel and equipment costs for the youth team.
