Churches from Marquette—along with groups from Menominee and Naubinway—gathered in Escanaba at Ludington Park for Jesus Fest, an event that offers free food, live music, and activities for kids to provide hope.
The free festival continues today from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., organized by Cindy Kenny, Jessica Arkens, and Phyllis Schon.
Today, the 65th Art on the Rocks event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette where over 100 artists from around the country are selling work—ranging from paintings, drawings, glass and jewelry—in a free fair.
Dawn Evans (of MediaBrew Communications) and TV6’s Jennifer Perez raced on Saturday at the Marquette Kart Club over five laps, with Evans’ team winning the contest.
After the race, an NMU officer arrested both to promote the upcoming Battle of the Badges (a food drive event set for Aug. 8 at the track).
Seventeen fire departments competed at the 130th U.P.
Volunteer Firefighters Tournament in Gwinn, hosted by the Forsyth Township Fire Department. Skandia West Branch won first in the Shirttail and Dress parades on Friday and timed events took place Saturday—closing ceremonies and final results will be shared today at 10 a.m.
