🎭 Culture
Art on the Rocks, a 66th-year fair from the Lake Superior Art Association, features hand-selected art by artists nationwide, judged in multiple categories.
It runs free this Saturday (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) for families to enjoy and purchase art.
🎓 Education
The Upper Peninsula Construction Council’s summer camp (running July 6 to Aug.
5) is giving 30 local high school students hands-on training in 11 trades at local facilities. They are working with heavy machinery, soldering copper piping, and earning $14 an hour along with a certificate and bonus upon completion.
🏛️ Government
Marquette County Board approved a contract with AECOM Tuesday night to begin monitoring and cleaning PFAS chemicals at the former airport site in Negaunee Township.
The project, funded by state grants, is set to continue through this year and into next year.
🏥 Health
Swim Teal Lake: Benefit for Diabetes is set for this Saturday at Teal Lake Beach.
Participants may choose a 2.25-mile race starting at 9:30 a.m. or a 0.25-mile race at 8:30 a.m. to raise funds for Camp UPeninsulin + music and raffles add to the event.
Registered dietitian Shanthi Appelö explains that dirty sodas (popular on social media) can contain two to four times as much sugar as a typical soda and high amounts of caffeine.
She advises moderation and recommends mixing flavored sparkling water with fruit juice as a healthier alternative.
Dr. Danny Yarger and Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt warn riders on Upper Michigan trails that riding ATVs and UTVs can lead to serious head, neck, and rollover injuries for young riders.
They advise always wearing a helmet+ seat belt, taking safety courses, and avoiding adult-sized vehicles for children.
