UPAWS in Sands Township is at capacity because a surge in homeless pets, including nine sled dogs taken in after their owner's death, has filled available space.

The shelter needs donations and volunteers (especially dog walkers) until legal custody questions are resolved.

On Monday, the Central UP Small Business Support Hub celebrated its first anniversary at Ore Dock Brewing Co. in Marquette—helping over 500 small businesses with more than $214,000 in grants and support across seven counties.

Marquette will host the 31st OutBack Art Fair this weekend at Shiras Park, where about 100 local artists will display paintings, wood sculptures, and jewelry.

WNMU faces a $2.2 million funding cut—34% of its operating budget—after Congress approved a plan to reduce CPB funds, and general manager Patrick Lakenen said the station will seek alternative funding while continuing to offer high-quality programming.
