The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is accepting pet pictures with a $10 donation for its 2026 calendar contest through July 31+ any picture that gets at least five votes is guaranteed a spot.
Voting will run from August 1 to August 31 at $1 per vote, and the top-voted image wins the cover while monthly top categories, a random drawing for pets with 100 votes, and a reserved date to honor a pet for $10 add extra prizes.

Gas prices in Michigan have dropped slightly to an average of $3.26 per gallon, which is 3 cents lower than last week but still higher than last month's rate while remaining 42 cents lower than last year’s Fourth of July.
In Upper Michigan, Marquette County shows the lowest price at $2.99 per gallon as holiday travel drives could push prices higher—AAA warns that increased demand may lead to rising costs.
