- ➤ On Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m., the 7th annual Community Resource Fair will take place at Lakeview Arena, where over 80 local groups will offer free or lower-cost services such as health checks, haircuts, and driver license help & community meals. Hosted by Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions and Upper Peninsula Health Plan, the event will provide residents with easy access to vital support and information. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Construction has started on the three-and-a-half-mile Silver Lead Creek Greenway and the revamp of Little Trout Lake Park in KI Sawyer to boost local recreation; the park is closed for safety and officials say trail work will finish by October 15 while full completion is expected by summer 2026 — the project is funded by a $997,000 state grant and additional support. - ➤ ISHPEMING — The West End Health Foundation and Marquette County Cares Coalition announced the 10th annual WEHF Golf Classic set for September 5 at Wawonowin Country Club, with all proceeds supporting youth health and development programs—registration closes August 15. The Mining Journal
- ➤ United Way of Marquette County & Texas Roadhouse are partnering on a Dine to Donate fundraiser on Friday, June 27 in Marquette; guests will receive a free pair of Bombas socks while supporting programs that deliver meals, provide emergency shelter & volunteer services. - ➤ Today the City of Marquette will host a public ribbon cutting ceremony for the Cultural Trail at the Whetstone Brook story marker from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.—a community gathering will follow at Provisions Marquette from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Tiina Morin will lead a guided tour from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with stops at the Seven Grandfather Teachings Monument and the Father Marquette statue. - ➤ The Marquette Area Sister Cities Partnership is hosting an Art Week reception Thursday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sister City Room in the Peter White Public Library to share cross-cultural stories and display artistic items from Finland and Japan—featuring door prizes and Finnish and Japanese foods—adding a unique flavor to Art Week celebrations in Marquette. - ➤ A new endowment fund by the Community Foundation is helping keep the Noquemanon Trail Network in good shape + it will give a yearly grant for maintenance, conservation, and development projects. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marquette Board of Light & Power is adding a second 69-kV power line (estimated cost $25M) along M-553 and County Road 480 to help keep power on; the work will be done this fall (providing a backup if lines fail). Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Marquette will close the Third Street stretch between Washington Street and Spring Street on Friday from 4—10 p.m. for a motorcycle rally as the city sets up marked detours. The Harley Owners Group will hold a police-led motorcycle procession beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday that starts at the NMU Berry Event Center parking lot and follows a set route. - ➤ The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, Superior Health Foundation and Michigan Health Endowment Fund have opened applications for a grant program to improve care for older adults in the U.P.—nonprofits such as hospitals and universities can apply for a 12 or 24-month grant of up to $50,000 and must send a concept paper by 11:59 p.m. on July 11.
