- ➤ MoxieMoms held its Planting Hope event on Sunday at its memorial garden on Fifth and Spring Street in Marquette — volunteers from community groups donated plants and tended the space to honor families who have lost a child. - ➤ The Lake Superior Community Partnership, along with the cities of Ishpeming and Negaunee and the Rotary Club of Ishpeming, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 8 at 5 p.m. at the Negaunee dock during Pioneer Days to celebrate the completion of the ADA‐compliant joint Teal Lake dock project—designed for various watercraft including those of the Marquette Rowing Club and funded by a Michigan DNR grant with local matching donations. - ➤ The Negaunee City Band concert will be led by guest conductor Dr. Steven Riley — director of bands at Northern Michigan University — on Wednesday at 7:30 at the Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street, with a program featuring diverse musical selections. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Marquette’s Peter White Public Library Community Room will host a presentation about the legacy of Louis Graveraet Kaufman on Thursday, June 26 from 6:30–7:30 p.m. Author Ann Berman will lead a live conversation with his descendant Peter Kaufman — who will share rare family stories — as they discuss his journey from humble beginnings to a lasting local impact. - ➤ Marquette officials have rescheduled the Police-Fire Pension Board meeting from Tuesday due to a lack of quorum and it will now take place on Thursday, June 26 at 8:30 a.m. in the Finance Conference Room at Marquette City Hall—300 W. Baraga Ave. The Mining Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services advised Marquette residents to take precautions against heat-related illness as high temperatures and humidity are set to make it feel near 100 degrees this weekend and next week (data shows rising emergency visits above 80 degrees). Residents are urged to stay cool by drinking water, limiting outdoor activities, and checking on vulnerable neighbors (local cooling centers can be found via Michigan 211). The Mining Journal
