The 20th Great Lakes Rodeo will take place this weekend in Gwinn, offering bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, and a parade along with the Gwinn Fun Daze festival (held in Nordine Park) for local families to enjoy.

The Lake Superior Community Partnership joined Gartners Gallery for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday at the new Marquette location (4250 US 41 West, former Kubota building).
The family-owned business, which has served the region for over 130 years, now offers quality US-made furniture and free delivery.
🎓 Education
The Negaunee Public Library will host a forensics workshop by the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum at 5 p.m. Monday, June 29 in Negaunee (the free event challenges participants to solve a mock crime and requires children under 7 to attend with an adult).
Big Bay Environmental Education Center held a fundraiser in Marquette on Sunday to introduce programs that teach informed tourism through hiking, paddling, and agriculture education.
The center is developing a 4,000 sqft facility in Big Bay for educational activities (with 18 excursions planned by 2027).
From July 1 to Aug. 1, PWPL in Marquette is hosting the Unearth Your Story summer reading program for adults, where participants read books, pick up bookmarks, record title and rating, and submit up to 10 entries plus have a chance to win a prize.
Bay de Noc Community College awarded 200 degrees and certificates during Winter 2026—the highest count since 2019—recognizing graduates from campuses in northern Michigan, including Escanaba and Marquette.
The announcement underscores the college's continued commitment to educational excellence.
🌲 Environment
J.W. Toumey Nursery—the only remaining US Forest Service nursery in the Eastern Region—grows millions of red, jack and white pine seedlings at Ottawa National Forest in the western U.P. for reforestation projects across the northeastern quarter.
The Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources warn residents not to move untreated firewood to stop tiny pests like the hemlock woolly adelgid from harming local trees.
They urge campers to buy local or certified heat-treated wood + keep our forests healthy.

Marquette County Road 456 has reopened after a culvert—located about one-quarter mile west of US 41—was replaced.

In NEGAUNEE on Jun. 21, Congress Pizzas edged Phil & Lee’s 5-4 in Class A women's softball, with Shana Caliguri and Sophie Nerlfi making key plays.
Wins from teams like LaCosse & Associates, Dave’s Collision & Jack’s and Paradise Bar kept the Iron Range Women’s Softball League in close standings.
Marquette’s Post 44 Blues earned their third straight win at the Rhinelander Rebel Invitational on Saturday when Jaykob Dahm’s seventh-inning RBI single gave them a 6-5 walk-off win over D.C.
Everest + they also beat Ironwood 12-7 and advanced to the championship game against Springs on Sunday.
